What is Medicare?
The first step is finding out about eligibility for Medicare, the federally funded health insurance program available to those age 65 and older. Medicare may also cover those under 65 with end-stage renal disease and certain disabilities.
Coverage is divided into four categories:
Part A covers inpatient care and home health care.
Part B covers doctor visits, home health care, outpatient care and certain preventative services.
Part C are Medicare Advantage Plans, which are Medicare-approved health plans offered through private insurance companies and include all Part A and Part B along with extra coverage that may include dental, hearing, vision and wellness programs.
Part D covers prescription drugs.
