About Medicaid

If you can’t afford to pay for medical care, Medicaid can help you get the care you need now. Medicaid is available to individuals and families who meet certain criteria for eligibility mandated by federal and state law. Medicaid is a state administered program and each state sets its own guidelines regarding eligibility and services. Medicaid does not pay you directly, it sends payments to your health care providers.

Are You Eligible?

You should apply for Medicaid if your income is low and you match the descriptions of one of the Eligibility Groups. You must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. If you or someone in your family needs health care and you aren’t sure if you qualify, you should apply for Medicaid and have a qualified caseworker evaluate your situation. You can also visit www.Benefits.gov and www.BenefitsCheckUp.org to see if you are eligible for a variety of governmental programs.

Medicaid applicants must have:

Proof of age and citizenship

Social Security card

Proof of current income and assets
