Meet Our Participants: Siu Shui Tong

Ms. Siu has been a Teamcare participant for 12 years and is enrolled in Teamcare at the time of posting.

I am Siu Shui Tong. I’m 75 years old this year. In 1976, I came from Hong Kong to USA. I have two sons, two daughters and eight grandchildren. My husband and I always wanted good schools for my children and chose to come to America. I worked for a government factory, then retired to take care of my grandchildren.

12 years ago I had a car accident and I have pain all over my body. After the car accident, I cannot perform the household chores. I have shoulder pain I have difficulty with movement.

One day I was in a park with some friends and they told me about CenterLight and how it might be able to help me. Since I’ve come here my pain and my sadness has gotten so much better. My spirit is lifted.I also meet with my Occupational Therapist, Paula every week and she helps me with exercises that have helped me gain mobility and lessen the pain.

After my husband died I could not sleep, Now, with the help of  acupuncture, I can sleep. Acupuncture, massage, paraffin wax treatments, all of it helps me a lot.

I enjoy coming to the Teamcare center. I come 6 days a week and it helps me to keep my mind and body active.I like to play mahjong and sing karaoke. I also love traditional Chinese singing and dancing. I really like Cantonese opera. I enjoy being with the Chinese community here. We go on trips to the casino and other fun places.

We are like a family. Now, I don’t feel so lonely. I have a lot ot friends here. I feel connected again, like I belong here. That makes me happy and I look forward to coming to the center everyday!
