CenterLight Celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival

CenterLight Healthcare 健信醫保 Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) held Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations at our Grand Street, Stillwell, Westchester, and Flushing centers. CenterLight PACE participants enjoyed music, entertainment, arts and crafts led by the Therapeutic Recreation Team, mooncakes, and refreshments as we celebrated this yearly cultural tradition. Among those in attendance to greet our participants were President and CEO Tara Buonocore-Rut, VP of Operations Emina Tabakovic, VP of Business Development Jeannie Doherty-Benckwit, and AVP of Care Delivery Operations Brian Sidiski. I’d also like to thank Jenny Wang, Manager of Specialized Group Programs, for helping me organize these events.

What is the Mid-Autumn Festival?

Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional yearly Chinese tradition that started more than 3,000 years ago. Similar holidays are also celebrated in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and other Southeast Asian countries. The Festival is held to give thanks for the year’s harvest and gathering with family and friends. It is also called the Moon Festival as it is celebrated to encourage the moon, believed to contribute to good harvest, to return again in the coming year. Mooncakes are traditionally given out during the festivities—with their round shape symbolizing the completeness of families.

Honoring Cultural Traditions

The CenterLight PACE staff works to help ensure that the unique preferences and cultural traditions of those we serve are taken into careful consideration in providing individualized care.* The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the many occasions celebrated by our participants from all over the world. These diverse traditions are evident in the more than 100 activities and events at each of our PACE Centers per month, as well as in our online educational and recreational programs.

We are dedicated to providing high quality care and services to our CenterLight PACE participants, as well as offering educational and recreational events that can help them, their loved ones, and the larger community live well and stay healthy. Stay tuned for more events in the coming months, including a Health and Wellness Fair for our Chinese community.
