Wash Those Hands!

Hand washing is an important step you can take to keep yourself healthy and avoid catching viruses such as COVID-19 and the flu.

Hand washing is important before and after meals, before, during, and after preparing food. It is also important when entering your home from outside, and before and after caring for someone at home who is sick with vomiting or diarrhea. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also recommends hand washing after using the bathroom, after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, and after touching garbage.

To wash your hands correctly, wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap, lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap, lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails, scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds, rinse your hands well under clean, running water and dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them. You may use regular soap. You don’t need antibacterial soap to wash your hands effectively.

If hand washing is unavailable, using a hand sanitizer is another good option to keep yourself protected against germs.

By practicing good hand hygiene, you can help reduce your risk of getting sick. Let's all practice good hand hygiene together!
