The Importance of COVID-19 Vaccine and Boosters

Many people still have questions about COVID-19 vaccine and want to know why the vaccine is important. Having questions about the vaccine and wanting to learn more is a normal reaction. Learning more about the vaccine and the job it can do to keep you safe is a critical first step in getting informed.

Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 can help lower your risk of getting and spreading the virus. The COVID-19 vaccine helps prevent severe illness or hospitalization if you catch COVID-19.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), people 65 and older who received both doses of either Pfizer or Moderna vaccines showed a 94% reduced risk of COVID-19 related hospitalization.

The COVID-19 vaccines are also safe and effective. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted full approval for the Pfizer vaccine for people ages 16 years and older and the Moderna vaccine for people ages 18 years and older.

Hundreds of millions of people in the United States have received COVID-19 vaccines under the most intensive safety monitoring program in history.

The COVID-19 booster shot is a great way to have an extra layer of protection from the virus and all the outstanding variants of the virus. While COVID-19 vaccines are effective, studies have shown some declines in vaccine effectiveness against infections over time, especially in people ages 65 years and older. The booster shot increases the immune response and prevents serious illness.

If you received either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least five months ago or the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least two months ago, you are eligible to receive a booster today.

With the help of the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines, we will hopefully soon be able to put the pandemic behind us. Getting vaccinated and boosted is a great way to ensure that you are protected against the virus.
