Summer is officially here! This summer, learn how to enjoy delicious treats to beat the heat and stay fit at your barbecue or any planned activities/gatherings.
At CenterLight, we believe following a healthy and nutritious diet is a great way to help keep our participants happy and healthy. Each of our CenterLight PACE participants meets with a registered dietitian to develop a nutrition plan specific to their needs.
This summer, we encourage our PACE participants and community members to try our 12 must-eat foods and treats recommended by Phyllis Russell, MS, RDN, CDN, a Registered Dietitian for CenterLight. Phyllis's list is filled with food that tastes great and is good for you.
Watermelon
helps you stay hydrated, is packed with nutrients and may improve heart health.
Iced tea
helps you stay hydrated, boosts your antioxidants and is a good alternative to soda.
Coleslaw
may help lower cholesterol levels, is filled with cabbaged packed with nutrients, and can help lower blood pressure.
Corn
is rich in vitamin C and a good source of carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin, which are good for eye health and help prevent the lens damage that leads to cataracts.
Salsa
is a good source of vitamin C, can stabilize blood sugar, and is hydrating.
Sherbert
is a good source of vitamin C and does a good job of reducing body heat.
Frozen Greek Yogurt Ice Pops
help lower blood pressure, improve your immune system, and are a refreshing treat.
Strawberries, Blueberries, and Raspberries
Berries help improve blood sugar, are high in fiber and are loaded in antioxidants.
Tomatoes
are a good source of vitamin C, and lower your risk of heart disease and cancer.
Seeds and Nuts
are good sources of protein, healthy fats, and fiber.
Avocadoes
are a good source of vitamin C, E, K, and B6 and are a good source of healthy fats.
Fruit Smoothies
are a good way to increase fruit consumption, provide protein and vitamins, and minerals.
