Nutrition Tips for a Super Bowl Party

The big game is right around the corner! As we get closer to the Super Bowl, lots of us might be attending a gathering to watch the game with friends or family.

Here are some quick tips on how our participants, caregivers, staff, and community members can still keep nutrition in mind while attending or hosting a Super Bowl party!

Tips for eating well during the Super Bowl

Plan.

Be prepared and have a game plan (pun intended!). Stick with the appropriate portion sizes and snack smartly. Keep high-calorie food items limited on your plate (e.g., cheeses and heavily sauced items).

Head for the fruit/vegetable platters first.

Fruits and vegetables are high in fiber and will help fill you up. Just be careful with the dip. Try salsa instead of a cream cheese dip.

Drink plenty of water.

It will keep you hydrated and satiated without all the calories. Try putting a slice of fruit in your water for extra flavor.

Try and eat from a plate.

Don't have an open bag or chips in front of you. You will probably end up eating the whole bag without realizing it. Use a plate and watch your portion size.

Limit your alcohol intake.

Have one victory drink (or defeat drink – if your team loses!), and drink water or flavored sparking water for the rest of the game.
